Summer Ink: Our Ongoing Commitment

Since 1994, Summer Ink’s mission is to enable students to find their voices as writers and to give them the tools to impact those around them with their writing. Building a camp that is diverse both racially and socioeconomically is integral to this mission because hearing and understanding many perspectives enables young people to deepen and value their own.

The tragic death of George Floyd and the resulting examination of the experience of black and brown people in this country and around the world reminds us of the urgency of our mission. While the last few weeks have been upsetting, we have also seen young people assert their desire to be heard. Summer Ink will continue to play its part by deepening our youth’s sense of urgency and responsibility, teaching them how to express their vision strongly and clearly, and positioning them to forge a better path for us all.
